Abstract

In the dark and early days of computing, when programs were nasty, brutish and short, we used different tools for writing the code (the editor), for compiling the code (the compiler), for linking the code (the linker), and for debugging the code (the debugger). The advent of the Integrated Development Environment (IDE) had a tremendous positive impact on programmer productivity.
