Abstract

Chapter 4 in Part I of this book provided some of the general conceptual background for describing and analyzing motion. That background included a discussion of motion-related concepts such as velocity, acceleration, and force. In the present chapter, well use those concepts to formulate the physics laws that will allow you to calculate the motion of particles under any type of force. The next five chapters will then apply the laws to a number of different forces. Well illustrate the application of the principles with brief examples, with the aim of building on them in the next few chapters.
