Abstract
You can almost always tell the maturity of a product by looking at the number of iterations it has undergone. A serious product offering usually receives consistent product updates and enhancements throughout its lifespan. ODP.NET is one such product, having had a steady number of releases (roughly ten iterations) since its inception. This chapter aims to provide you an overview of the new features in each of the three major versions of ODP.NET (versions 9, 10, and 11) and how they can help you write .NET applications that work better with the Oracle database. At the end of this chapter, I will also walk you through the process of installing the Oracle database server as well as the other components required for you to start writing ODP.NET applications.
