Abstract
Having the proper monitoring and alerting is the key to maintaining a highly available environment. The simple fact is that things go wrong; that’s probably why you set up database mirroring in the first place. It’s your job to make sure you know as soon as possible when something does go wrong or when undesirable events occur within database mirroring. When monitoring and alerting your database mirroring configuration, you are mainly concerned with two events. One is when the state of database mirroring changes, and the other is when database mirroring exceeds a specific warning threshold. We will cover the components that work in the background that will allow you to capture these events. We will also show you the tools you can use to monitor database mirroring, manage warning thresholds, and configure alerts based on these thresholds.
