Abstract
Even if you do not develop Web 3.0 applications, the material in this chapter will save you time and effort when working with relational databases. Specifically, I’ll discuss object-relational mapping (ORM) and provide a tutorial on two effective ORM frameworks: Active-Record and DataMapper. I think that a trend in Web 3.0 development will be a continued reduction in the cost of development and software maintenance. I expect to see continued improvements in the expressiveness of ORM frameworks based on domain-specific languages (DSLs), which will make development more efficient.
