Abstract

Collaboration servers, also known by the name groupware, are a combination of messaging services and document management services. Many organizations have a great need for people to be able to easily communicate, arrange meetings, exchange ideas, and write and share documents. Mail, shared mail folders, instant messaging, shared calendaring, shared task lists, shared documents, and shared workspaces are all combined to form one product, the collaborative service. The several offerings available range from free open source to closed source commercial applications that are all designed to run on Linux.
