Abstract
Code pairs are one EDI message structure that requires special discussion in regards to mapping. This construct is very prevalent in EDI, because the message structures have been designed to be highly flexible. The code pair consists of a qualifier and one or more data nodes. The qualifier describes the meaning of the data node or nodes. Some data elements have hundreds of possible meanings. This chapter examines some of the ways that code pairs affect mapping.
