Using Data-Bound Controls

Abstract

Day by day, dynamically produced Web content replaces more and more static content. In this chapter, we explain the ASP.NET features that allow you to design Web pages that can be reused with different informational content. To create such a page, you add the necessary controls to the page, arrange and configure the controls to maximize their usefulness to the user, and then bind the controls to a source of data. Often, of course, the data will originate from a database. In Chapter 9, we cover the subject of retrieving and updating database information from the Web using ADO.NET, and we also revisit some of the controls introduced in this chapter. Here, however, we focus upon the mechanics of data binding and upon the controls that support it.
