Persistence-Related Design Patterns

  • Richard Sperko

Alice was beginning to get very tired of sitting by her sister on the bank, and of having nothing to do: Once or twice she had peeped into the book her sister was reading, but it had no pictures or conversations in it, “and what is the use of a book,” thought Alice “without pictures or conversation?” In this chapter, I will talk about design patterns, which are as great a way to communicate as pictures and conversation. Design patterns are documents that contain instructions for solving a specific problem within a specific context. Software designers write down patterns to give other designers a path or recipe to follow to solve recurring design problems. In other words, design patterns are conceptual templates you can apply to areas of your application or system as appropriate.
