Designing Easily Maintained Web Sites
Many of the Web sites that I visit are so incredibly complex I have to wonder how the person in charge of the site keeps track of the functionality provided. In many cases, it’s obvious that the person responsible for maintenance hasn’t kept pace with the functionality and the site is in dire need of repair. The purpose of all this glitter is to attract attention—to make the Web site more appealing. The opposite effect actually occurs. A combination of poor maintenance, nonexistent usability, features that don’t work on every browser, and information overload often make the site inaccessible even to experts.
