Abstract
For the most part, the standard features of the Velocity runtime will suffice for the applications that you want to build. However, some applications may have special requirements that call for changes to the way Velocity works. Whilst you could just change the source code of the Velocity runtime and recompile it, this isn’t the best solution for the future. When a new version of Velocity is released, you need to rework the source code if you want to take advantage of new features of the runtime. Thankfully, Velocity provides a variety of standard mechanisms for extending various areas of the runtime. Specifically, you can extend the runtime with the following:
-
Custom event handling
-
A custom LogSystem
-
Custom ResourceLoaders
-
Custom directives
-
A custom ResourceManager
-
A custom ResourceCache
-
A custom Uberspect implementation
