A Brief History of Oracle

  • Dave Ensor

There are at least three good reasons why this chapter is not a complete history of either Oracle Corporation or even just their database software. Firstly this history is selective, and concentrates on the evolution of Oracle’s database engine, especially aspects that are relevant to the issues raised in the remaining chapters. To that extent it can be viewed as a rather extended introduction. If at any point you are not enjoying the chapter and, like me, always want to get into the real subject matter of any book, then I would encourage you to skip to another chapter that looks more promising.
