Abstract

Network security firewalls create special challenges for the network game programmer. Firewalls may block all network connections except for outgoing web browser requests and their responses. As firewalls are becoming more common both at work and at home, the networking code of your game client needs to be able to automatically pass messages through these firewalls to the game server without player or network administrator intervention.

They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.
