Abstract

We’re starting to write real programs now, and real programs need to be able to read and write files from and to your hard drive. At the moment, all we can do is ask the user for input using ‹STDIN› and print data on the screen using print (). Pretty simple stuff, yes—but these two ideas actually form the basis of a great deal of the file handling you’ll be doing in Perl.
