In addition to the stored procedures covered in the previous chapter, SQL Server can also host a variety of other types of common language runtime (CLR) routines. These include user-defined datatypes, functions (both scalar and table-valued), aggregates, and triggers. Like CLR stored procedures, each of these types of routines can be built in Visual Studio 2005 or 2008 using C# or Visual Basic .NET (VB. NET). Also like CLR stored procedures, it’s important to consider using these routines carefully, as CLR integration is not appropriate for all situations.
