Abstract

With the technological advances in computers and the spread of the Internet, the need has grown to share information within the corporation throughout the disparate regions of the globe. The internationalization of products and the demand for readily available information create the increasing requirements for data replication. Of all the replication technologies available, Oracle Streams can provide a single enterprise solution for data sharing for Oracle databases. One key benefit that Oracle Streams provides is the ability to replicate data between different versions of Oracle. Unlike Oracle Logical Standby, Oracle Streams also allows you to replicate a database between different operating systems. In addition, architects can selectively pick and choose what table they want to replicate. Application architects can even filter the data subset within a table using what is called Streams rules. These rules are similar to where clauses in a SQL statement.
