Abstract

One of the focuses of this book is to expose major new Oracle Database 11g development features to the development community. This chapter dives deep into the new features of development in the areas of PL/SQL, Java, and XML support. Furthermore, this chapter briefly covers Application Express and PHP to describe what is available in Oracle Database 11g. The PL/SQL and Java portions of this chapter are dedicated to developers, with minor emphasis on DBAs. DBAs with previous development backgrounds can definitely enjoy this chapter, though. Also, DBAs who are aspiring developers can benefit from all the new Oracle Database 11g features offered to increase database productivity. Let’s get started with a discussion on PL/SQL.
