Abstract

As of PHP 5, support was added for the open source database server SQLite (http://www. sqlite. org/). This was done partly in response to the decision to unbundle MySQL from version 5 due to licensing discrepancies and partly due to a realization that users might benefit from the availability of another powerful database that nonetheless requires measurably less configuration and maintenance as compared to similar products. This chapter introduces both SQLite and PHP’s ability to interface with this surprisingly capable database engine.
