Abstract

Iterators provide element-by-element access to a sequence of things. The things can be numbers, characters, or objects of almost any type. The standard containers, such as vector, provide iterator access to the container contents, and other standard iterators let you access input streams and output streams, for example. The standard algorithms use iterators exclusively for operating on sequences of things.
