Summary
I’ve covered Fiddler and the Developer Toolbar in detail in this chapter because I really feel that for Ajax debugging, these two tools will become incredibly beneficial to most web developers. They’re a quick download away, and for a price of, well, FREE, it’s worth giving them a shot.
Debugging in Visual Studio 2005 has become so intuitive that I often wonder how we ever wrote applications without the tools that we’ll soon become accustomed to in our new IDE. I’m sure that improvements could be made here and there, but if you’re ever frustrated with the current debugging toolset, reinstall Visual Basic 6.0 and relive some legacy debugging pain. You’ll quickly sing the praises of Visual Studio 2005 debugging techniques.
In the next chapter, we’ll transition from debugging our applications to testing. We’ll examine some simple load testing, and you’ll learn the answer to the question, “Can you test an Ajax application with current testing software?” I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised.
