Understanding Web Basics

You could say that the chapter title of “Understanding Web Basics” is somewhat misleading. This chapter has operated more as a guide to some of the optional functionality offered by PHP that can come in handy when building your web applications. We have not covered some of the really basic stuff you perhaps expected; instead, we have gone further than that and given you some solutions that you might have found challenging to work out by yourself.

Whether it is building a system for authenticating users or passing values from page to page, PHP 5 has a solution for you. It is key to use the right technology for the job, however, so having knowledge of a wide variety of methods can be the difference between a well-conceived web application and a complete flop.

Keep these technologies in mind when building your applications; although they may not come in handy for every task, they are there for your use should you need them.
