Summary

In this chapter, you learned about eDirectory. The structure of eDirectory was introduced, as well as the way an eDirectory tree should be organized. You read about how eDirectory can be explained with the native Novell Directory Access Protocol NCP, as well as with the standard LDAP protocol, which can be used from many applications. If a default eDirectory tree doesn’t fit your needs, it can be extended by managing the schema. In the schema, additions to the database structure can be made. It’s also possible to tune eDirectory performance by optimizing the database cache or by creating indexes. Finally, some common problems that can occur in an eDirectory environment were covered. In the next chapter, you’ll read about user management in an eDirectory environment.
