Abstract

Between 1990 and 1996 pre-registration nurse education converted from apprentice-type training located in hospitals to tertiary training conducted by the higher education institutions and resulted in the ‘Project 2000’ (UKCC, 1986) diploma courses. When polytechnics were given university status in 1992 the remaining colleges of nursing were incorporated into the expanding universities.

You cannot be wise without some basis of knowledge; but you may easily acquire knowledge and remain bare of wisdom. (Whitehead, 1967)
