Acute In-patient Setting

  • Chapter
Mental Health Nursing

Abstract

When exploring the possible causes as to why a client may be admitted to an acute in-patient unit, the reader, particularly those who are student nurses, should explore the models of mental disorder as these link to the biopsychosocial assessment that is required. Therefore, this chapter will discuss the role of the mental health nurse working in this area, drawing on the example of a recently published report and conclude with an exploration of the possible biopsychosocial causes of the main mental disorders and examine just a few of the possible therapeutic nursing interventions that could be used.
