In more and more institutions, the tenure process is being carefully monitored on an annual basis. In order to submit the appropriate documentation, you should be sure that your department chair keeps you informed about what is expected of you each year, and how you are expected to document it. If the chair does not notify you about these procedures, make sure to ask her or him what you need to do beginning at the time of your hire. Most schools have well-documented procedures. Often, there is a form that your curriculum vitae should follow, and it is best if you begin by formatting it in the prescribed form, then keeping it up-to-date on a regular basis. It is probably more efficient to save materials in a file and update the CV periodically than to add one item at a time.
