Appointments, adjunct/part-time

Abstract

Given the current market, many academic institutions are cutting corners, taking advantage of the abundance of well-prepared people by trimming their full-time faculty rosters and turning to adjunct hires to teach core courses. This makes good economic sense if you are on the budget committee, but is a mixed blessing, at best, if you are on the job hunt. Benefits are minimal and course loads can approximate those of full-timers.
