Abstract
Poster sessions are common in many fields, especially the sciences and medicine, though new to religious studies at the Annual Meeting of the AAR. They are a chance to display current research and engage in conversation with colleagues who may be involved in similar projects. One applies for a poster session just as one does for presenting a paper. The difference is that instead of presenting to an audience, one presents, via a poster board, to individuals who stop to talk during a designated period during the meeting. A sharp, well-written, and well-mounted display on a 4’x 8’ board is the medium. Words, pictures, graphics, and other means to convey research and results are made available to interested passersby. Though very different from presenting an academic paper, poster sessions are especially useful for generating interest in new research and connecting with people who have similar interests.
