Postcolonial discourse is an emerging area of study investigating oppositional thinking that began at the first breath of European colonial conquest of the world. It is similar to postmodern thought in that it seeks to deconstruct master narratives and challenge binary oppositions. Many institutions understand that the world is growing ever smaller and try to prepare students for this new reality. Therefore, they work to bring in people from other countries and cultures to create a global community. This means that some of our teachers, our students, and our peers will come from countries that have a colonial history.
