Abstract

In 2002 President Bill Clinton was inducted into the Arkansas Black Hall of Fame, the first non-black recognized in the hall’s ten-year history. His election was not surprising to those familiar with Toni Morrison’s claim in a 1998 New Yorker piece—at the height of the former President’s scandal—that “white skin not withstanding, this is our first black President.
