Abstract

This chapter focuses upon two main issues; the siting and construction of communities by social policies and the subsequent significance of the discourse of ‘community’ to the making of social policies. It will be argued that this is very much a two-way process, policies construct visible and definable ‘communities’ and in turn the concept and discourse of ‘community’ is embedded in current social policies.
