Abstract

The pattern of this first chapter of extracts will not match the layout of the chapters that follow: rather than looking closely at one passage from each of Marlowe’s plays, as most subsequent chapters will, in this opening section we are going to consider two extracts from each play, the prologue and the first scene. We will compare the different ways in which the plays begin, and how the prologues function in each case. We will also make some comparisons between the plays.
