Abstract

It can be both useful and satisfying for group leaders to design programmes to meet the needs of a particular target group. When designing a programme leaders may wish to use the process described in this chapter. In this process, leaders start by developing an overall programme and then design specific programmes for each individual session. It is advantageous to develop the overall programme first rather than starting by designing the individual session programmes. By doing this the overall programme is more likely to grow from, and be directly connected with, the relevant theory and research. Additionally, the overall programme is more likely to be consistently geared towards meeting the children’s needs.
