Abstract

Western philosophy has a wonderful literature. The great books of philosophy surely merit inclusion among any collection of the greatest books of humankind. Plato’s Republic or Descartes’s Meditations are as important a part of humanity’s literature as Shakespeare’s Hamlet or Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales.
