Abstract

The chapters in this volume articulate the intersection of education, democracy, and the moral life as a space in which opposites collide. A moral citizen must be able to embody the ability to connect and disconnect, to be patriotic and skeptical, to seek revolution and stability, to negotiate hate with love, and to consolidate and expand one’s moral identity. An examination of the constructive nature of the collision of these opposites takes place via the theories delineated in the book and the skills and practices the authors advocate for cultivating moral citizens.
