This chapter seeks to explore the degree of stability and change in popu lations' wellbeing in developing countries through the particular case of Algeria. Data is derived from two large-scale surveys which have been respectively con ducted in 2003 and 2005 with convenience samples of 1,417 and 2,909 respondents living in the Western part of the country. Both Personal Wellbeing Index (PWI) and National Wellbeing Index (NWI), which together constitute the International Wellbeing Index (IWI), have been used.
The results indicate that in 2005, all the samples' sections registered signifi cantly higher ratings across both indexes and their item domains. The measure has performed well in terms of reliability and validity and its extension has been con sidered. These improvements are linked to the increasingly regained stability in the country in terms of both security and economy.
