As Aristotle tells us, and as standard histories of logic agree with him, its inception is in his reflections over a peculiar Platonic procedure known as diaeresis. Diaeresis is a refinement of a common argumentation procedure known as dialektike. Let me tell you briefly my opinion of what dialektike and diaeresis are and why refining them was so important.
