A cold supersaturated lattice gas on a square lattice with Glauber/ Metropolis dynamics provides a unique possibility of first-principle evaluation of the steady-state and transient rates for nucleation of two-dimensional crystals. Alternatively, nucleation can be studied using Monte Carlo methods. Due to current advances in computational powers a temperature domain can be identified where both approaches overlap, allowing for an instructive analysis. The Becker-Döring model also can be assessed.
