Janet Parke, the SENCO at Dewsberry Primary School, wanted to discuss a number of pupils who had made virtually no progress in reading despite all the support they had received. The head teacher was worried because it looked as though the school’s targets in literacy were not going to be achieved. Moreover, this was the third year running that these particular pupils had fallen well short of what the class teacher expected of them.
