Abstract
In this paper, we take a close look at the performance of MRC diversity reception of OFDM signals in multipath slowly fading Nakagami-m channels. We derive an exact expression for the probability density function (PDF) of a sum of Nakagami-m random phase vectors, which is used to derive a closed-form expression for the error-rate of OFDM signals using multichannel reception with maximal ratio combining. Consequently, the average-symbol error rate for M-ary modulation can be expressed in terms of confluent hypergeometric function, which can be easily evaluated numerically. It is observed that depending on the number of channel taps, the error-rate performance does not necessarily improve with increasing Nakagami-m fading parameters
