Dikerogammarus villosus (Sowinsky), an amphipod gammarid crustacean, is an extremely aggressive species to the point that it has been nicknamed “killer shrimp” for its behaviour towards indigenous invertebrate species. From its original Ponto- Caspian area, it had invaded central and western Europe (Fig. 1) through the southern corridor connecting the Danube with the Rhine and the central corridor connecting the Dnieper with the Vistula, Oder, and Elbe basins
