Abstract

Students in Japanese upper secondary schools are voicing distaste for science. In addition, few children elect to participate in field trips and other experiences in nature. School officials, teachers and parents view these problems with a great deal of concern. Global Science Literacy, with its focus on understanding our natural habitat, can be a program to help to alleviate both of these problems. Central to GSL, however, is providing students with positive experiences with nature. With limited school time and schools often located in crowded urban areas, how are such experiences to be accomplished?
