Abstract

A considerable increase in flood damage has been observed worldwide, with mean annual values reaching tens of billions of US$ and still considerable number of fatalities. Most dramatic floods occur overseas (in particular in Asia – China, India, and Bangladesh), but in the last decade, floods have severely hit large parts of the European continent.
