This chapter introduces the concept of decent work developed and applied by the International Labour Organization (ILO) in recent years and increasingly adopted by governments, by the United Nations system as a whole, by development organizations and other groups. It discusses the relevance of decent work as a goal and a framework for policy formulation and presents examples of its contribution to policy debates at national and international level. The presentation highlights the inter-relations between technical and vocational education and training, development priorities and decent work.
