The skin is the largest organ and the most frequent site of cancers in humans. The life-time risk of skin cancer for fair-skinned individuals may now add up to 40%. Fortunately, the two most frequent subtypes, basal cell carcinoma (BCC) and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), are rarely life-threatening. The rarer melanoma is and its incidence appears to increase alarmingly.
