Globular Clusters: Galactic and Internal Motions

  • Conference paper
Penetrating Bars through Masks of Cosmic Dust

Part of the book series: Astrophysics and Space Science Library ((ASSL,volume 319))

Abstract

Motions of, and in, globular clusters can be observed from the ground and with the Hubble Space Telescope. This review covers types of observations and some of the results that they produce. Interactions of the Galactic bar with cluster orbits can in principle produce useful information, but the practical outlook is pessimistic.

Based on observations with the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope, obtained at the Space Telescope Science Institute, which is operated by AURA, Inc., under NASA contract NAS 5-26555.
