After reviewing the risk factors in storage, handling, transportation, demilitarization and destruction of conventional ammunition, the article deals with the increasing security activity in multinational operations in which the Romanian military forces take part. There are also presented the major chemical components for Romanian ammunition and their security impact on the population and environment. At the end, the article emphasizes Romania's efforts to comply to the European and NATO standards dealing with the storage, handling, transportation, demilitarization and destruction of ammunition in safety conditions. It also refers to the action ways in case of ecological disaster in Romania.
