Surprisingly little is known about Justus Ludewig von Uslar, who is the author of what is arguably the first book devoted to allelopathy, Die Bodenvergiftung durch die Wurzel-Ausscheidungen der Pflanzen als vorzüglichster Grund für die Pflanzen- Wechsel-Wirthschaft, published in 1844.
