Abstract
Field programmable gate array (FPGA) technology has become an increasingly useful tool employed in universities for both teaching and research. In this paper, we present a series of FPGA-based platforms and CAD tool environments which have been supplied to the member universities of the Canadian System-on-Chip Research Network (SOCRN) by Canadian Microelectronics Corporation (CMC) to support microsystems education, targeting the specific areas of digital signal processing (DSP), embedded system and multimedia design. The various features of these platforms, plus design examples that may be used in a classroom environment are presented and discussed.
