Ultrasonic Imaging of Rubber Material and Rubber Metal Interfaces

Abstract

Components made of rubber as membranes and components enveloped by rubber play a decisive role for the safety of systems for distributing, composing and proportioning of fluids. E. g., valves with corresponding components are applied in many branches of industry and medicine. Their error-free functioning must be guaranteed or a long time, often under extreme conditions. By an ultrasonic approach, delaminations between rubber and metallic components can be detected. Applying C-scan technique, delamination defects are visualized. In addition, inhomogeneities of the rubber material are acoustically imaged.
