Investigation of Structure and Properties of Immisible Polymer Blend by Acoustic Microscopy Techniques

  • Conference paper

Part of the book series: Acoustical Imaging ((ACIM,volume 27))

Abstract

Local elastic properties and microstructural features of low-density polyethylene-polypropylene (LDPE-PP) blends have been studied by microacoustical. Focused altrasonic beam of acoustic microscope has been employed to measure clastic wave velocities, bulk and shear elastic moduli and Poisson ratio. The experiments show that the mechanical propertices of immiscible LDPE-PP blends are non-additivily changcable in relation to ones of primary gomopolymers. Maximum of the moduli values is achieved with small addition of LDPE to PP. Internal microstructure has been imaged for different compositions of the blends. It allows revealing dispersivity of components over the blend body.
